There is a moment in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred when everything clicks. You are standing on the sun-drenched shores of Skovos, a beautiful island chain that looks nothing like the dark, decaying ruins of the base game. The sky is blue. The water is clear. You almost feel safe. Then the corruption spreads, the sky turns black, and you raise your shield. You are a Paladin, and this is your moment. The keyword that defines this expansion is the Paladin, and it has breathed new life into Sanctuary.

The Paladin class returns to Diablo after years of fan requests, and it delivers exactly what players hoped for. This heavily armored holy warrior is a master of close-range combat, defensive auras, and the iconic Blessed Hammer skill that sends spectral hammers spinning through waves of demons . The class features four distinct sub-styles: the tanky Juggernaut, the swift Zealot, the holy Judicator, and the Disciple, which unleashes angelic transformations . Whether you are a veteran who remembers the Hammerdin from Diablo II or a new player looking for a forgiving, powerful class, the Paladin is a perfect fit. It is sturdy, satisfying, and immediately jumped to the top of most players’ tier lists .

The Paladin alone is worth the price of admission, but Lord of Hatred offers much more. The expansion introduces a second new class, the Warlock, a demon-summoning occultist who thrives on controlled chaos. Unlike the Necromancer, who builds a permanent army, the Warlock summons unstable demons that fight for a short time and then disappear . It requires quick thinking and constant repositioning, but the payoff is explosive area damage and a playstyle that feels fresh and unpredictable.

The campaign itself is a massive improvement over the previous expansion, Vessel of Hatred. The story follows your hunt for Mephisto, the Prime Evil of Hatred, who now inhabits the body of a prophet-like figure named Akarat . The setting of Skovos, inspired by Greek islands, creates a unique tension. The beauty of the environment makes the inevitable corruption and horror even more disturbing. Lilith, the villain of the base game, also returns in a surprising and more sympathetic role . The boss fights are challenging, cinematic, and deeply satisfying.

Beyond the story, Lord of Hatred adds several quality-of-life features that longtime fans have requested. The map overlay, a classic feature from Diablo II, finally returns, allowing you to view the map directly on top of gameplay instead of staring at the mini-map . The Horadric Cube makes a comeback as a powerful item-crafting tool. A new fishing system offers a surprisingly fun diversion from demon slaying . Season 11, which launched alongside the Paladin pre-purchase, introduced Sanctification, a system that lets you add random legendary aspects to your gear, keeping the loot hunt exciting deep into the endgame .

Diablo S12 Items is in its best state since launch. The game has evolved through multiple seasons, addressing early criticisms about shallow endgame content and repetitive loot. With the Paladin leading the charge, Lord of Hatred is a must-play for any action RPG fan. The class is powerful, the story is engaging, and the grind has never been more rewarding. Sanctuary is calling. Pick up your shield and answer.
